David J. Schow's THE OUTER LIMITS AT 50 nominated for a Rondo Award!

Friend of this blog and Outer Limits scholar David J. Schow has been nominated for a coveted Rondo Award. Two, actually: one for his glorious Outer Limits at 50 book (which you can still get here), and one for his article in Screem Magazine, Issue #29, "Days of Future Past: Remembering The Outer Limits"(the very same issue in which Schow name-dropped this very blog, in the related article "The Outer Limits at 51"; as of this writing you can still get it here), and you should drop whatever you're doing and vote for him. In both categories, dammit.

The ballot is here. Do your civic duty, citizens!

Creature Features Gallery Show details announced!

Okay kids, the details have been announced...

David J. Schow's new The Outer Limits at 50 will be available for sale at the show, so if you haven't already already pre-ordered your copy(ies), and you're gonna be in Burbank on the 22nd... well, you get the idea. I sadly will NOT be able to attend, which breaks my heart. I was really looking forward to meeting Schow and my buddy Woody Welch face to face, but evidently fate has other plans.

If you can't be there on the 22nd either, the exhibit runs through April 12th. If you haven't ordered the book yet, do so here. All pre-orders before March 17th will be signed by the author, so don't delay!

The man himself, enjoying the fruits of his labor.

I've shared this before, but it's definitely worth another look. Here's a deliriously intoxicating flip-through....

The book should ship later this month. Not long now....

Woody Welch Reveals His Fifth Outer Limits Painting...

As previously reported, our buddy Woody Welch has been commissioned to create five Outer Limits paintings for the upcoming gallery show at Creature Features (which opens March 22). So far he's tackled Regina the Bee Girl from "ZZZZZ," The Box Demon from "Don't Open Till Doomsday," the Ichthyosaurus Mercurius from "Tourist Attraction," and Chill Charlie from "The Human Factor." Through his various social media outlets, Woody has unveiled his fifth and final work, which is inspired by one of my favorite episodes, "O.B.I.T."!

Aside from the fact that it's jaw-droppingly gorgeous, I particularly love this one because of the blue and green color scheme; it evokes the MGM VHS boxes from the late 80's-early 90's that I extol so frequently in these pages.

Woody's rendering of Jeff Corey is dead-on... but hey, who am I kidding? There's a naked woman, dead center, drawing lascivious eyes (like mine). Of course I love it!

Woody Welch Unveils His Fourth Outer Limits Painting....

As previously reported, our friend Woody Welch has been commissioned to create five Outer Limits paintings for the upcoming gallery show at Creature Features in mid-March. So far he's tackled Regina the Bee Girl from "ZZZZZ," The Box Demon from "Don't Open Till Doomsday," and the Ichthyosaurus Mercurius from "Tourist Attraction." Today he revealed his fourth work on Facebook: Chill Charlie from "The Human Factor"!

Woody indicates that he used a butter knife to achieve Charlie's unique texture.... I'm still laughing as I type this. And his timing couldn't be better, as much of the nation is experiencing extreme winter conditions, which the media has dubbed "Polar Vortex"; however, I prefer my friend Guy Wettstein's title:

Like a good soldier, I haven't missed any work due to our atypical (once every 4-5 years, maybe) blizzard-type situation. Here's a shot from my commute to work yesterday (2/06/14):

I have nowhere to go all weekend, and I've got plenty of snacks and beer... so yeah, I'm set.

Anyway.... that leaves one more Woody Welch painting to be revealed... any guesses?

An Enticing Glimpse....

The Outer Limits at 50, TOL guru David J. Schow's followup to his 1986 The Outer Limits: The Official Companion (which was reprinted in 1999 as, simply, The Outer Limits Companion), is due out in March. This diehard fan has been eagerly awaiting its release and, much to my delight, a couple of very tasty previews hit Facebook yesterday. First, here's Schow himself with the gorgeous tome in hand....

Second, Schow associate Keith Rainville posted the following video....

Not that my appetite for this book needed whetting, but.... well, *drool*.

Outer Limits 50th Anniversary Book Announced!

David J. Schow, the preeminent authority on All Things Outer Limits (and author of The Outer Limits Companion) has announced that a new TOL book is on the horizon, set for release sometime in the first quarter of 2014, celebrating the show's golden anniversary. Have a look:

I am all over this. In fact, I'll probably buy two copies just to be safe (readers will recall the tragic fate that befell my original copy of The Outer Limits Companion). Mr. Schow is a friend of this blog, and he's a super nice guy, so hopefully he'll sign a copy for me. I'll beg. I'll plead. I'll do whatever the hell it takes. I can't wait to dive into it.... here's hoping the following shot makes the cut (it's one of my favorite behind-the-scenes photos from the series):

Is this a meme-worthy pic or what?  Expect some fun when we get to "Nightmare" in December.

I'm also highly intrigued by this "gallery event to be announced," and I'm seriously considering making the trek to LA to check it out. Bill Huelbig, any interest in another visit to the west coast?
